Hey Kids Club…it’s Gus the theatre cat! We heard that you like Roald Dahl and so do we! For the very first time Peoples Theatre will be producing Matilda the Musical JR at the Peoples Theatre from June 10th – July 27th, 2025. 

This quirky musical based on the Roald Dahl novel of the same name will take audiences on an inspirational and adventurous journey. Matilda is the tale of a brilliant little girl with telekinetic powers. She has an unhappy life with her parents and the show follows her in her attempts to turn her life around. Matilda’s parents believe she is a nuisance while she thinks they are only interested in watching the television.

The monstrous headmistress, Miss Trunchbull also doesn’t make life easy for Matilda at school. The headmistress terrifies both students and teachers alike until one day Matilda discovers she has a very special power. She decides it's time to teach the grown-ups a lesson after developing an unlikely friendship with her teacher Miss Honey, who admires Matilda’s intellect and almost magical abilities.

As the plot progresses, the musical explores the bond between Matilda and Miss Honey, and Matilda’s desire for freedom. With themes of self-empowerment and finding one's true self, Matilda will be appreciated by young and adult audiences, with clever humour, wonderful wordplay and catchy original songs, it’s pure magic from scene to scene!

1. Search on Webtickets.co.za for the show title (Matilda) to see what show times and dates we have available for this show
2. Find out how many friends and family members want to come with you
3. Call or email Peoples Theatre with your Kids Club membership number/ numbers ready
4. Give us 24 hours max to prepare your invoice
5. Make payment and send us your POP
6. Once we have confirmed that we have received your POP you can sit back and prepare for a puuuuuuurfect Peoples Theatre experience!!

Membership: R150 per year
Public: R175
Accompanying a member: R150

The actors will come out and meet you after the show and sign your programmes on Kids Club Days. If you can’t make it on these days, don’t worry because you still get your Kids Club discount at any performance. It’s always my prrrrrrrivilege to have you at the theatre because you are SO SPECIAL.
